ARTIST'S
STATEMENT

Earth Dance

Much of my inspiration comes from nature Horses have always represented grace, raw power, freedom, honesty and beauty to me. Either capturing the essence, spirit and natural expression exhibited by horses, not just a realistic representation or using their image to elicit a feeling or mood is essential to the work. In many pieces they are a metaphor, symbols for feelings, ideas and emotions.

Creating in bronze and other solid materials allows me to explore design and form in a permanent media. Choosing to let the media show through is as important as the image itself. In striving to achieve an expressionistic, almost abstract figurative or symbolic work. Combining some pieces with different symbols helps me express other concepts and ideas that can make a dynamic and interesting sculpture that is more intimate and has a story to tell to the viewer. In many works, I include actual natural elements, such as vines, leaves and other found objects.

Reflections of nature and creating a feeling and mood are integral in my works. I strive to sometimes create intriguing and thought provoking work and sometimes pieces just for the joy of the creative process.
